As parents, it is our sole responsibility to take care and look after our children. It is also in our hands that not only the safety but also the fulfillment of happiness that our children experience depend on.  Our child’s well-being is summed up by a lot of factors which can define his or her future as an adult. In a school where our children mainly learn academics, is also where they encounter peers that could take effect on their attitude.
To enhance our child’s learning, we allow them to do certain activities even if it takes a risk to their safety.
Nowadays, to separate our children from the busy urban life of the city, hiking has been quite a famous activity. Campus groups in school sometimes organize hiking in the near valleys and forests of the city. Of course, we can just allow them to go hiking carelessly, as parents we have a lot of checklists to consider before they could go.
Before anything else, we have to consider our child’s health and safety. He or she has not to be sick days prior to the activity. Having physical constraints or any medical condition that they are in should also look on. It could be that they have bruises, muscle sprains, joint pains that they may be hiding, this, of course, could worsen when they are in the forests. Our children should also take a full healthy meal before taking on strenuous activity.
They need all the energy they can get so having a full stomach is not bad. They should also have adequately rested the night before so as to charge up their body. Another thing to consider is the completeness of their paraphernalia. Their backpack should contain Food to eat, light snacks, clean adequate water some of the important things they should bring. If possible, let them wear new shoes so as to make sure they don’t get injured in case their old one breaks.
Letting them wear bright colored clothes to easily view them from the trees and leaves. Protection from sunlight, cap, emergency kits or first aid kits such as gauze, povodine iodine, medicated strips, and alcohol. The team should at least organize themselves so as to properly delegate the important things to bring. Your child and his group mates should also have at least one adult that will accompany them. It could be their teacher, or coach, other parents, or maybe you could come along with them to ensure their wellbeing.
If you cannot go with them, make sure you have their cell phone number,  or maybe his teammate’s cell phone number just so you can contact them in case of emergency. Getting along with other parents will also help in monitoring your children’s status. Knowing your child’s hiking route should also be considered. Accessibility of the transportation, the nearest eatery, convenient store or closest hospital from the area just so you can have a peace of mind. All in all, we have to consider a lot of things, but the safety and security of our child remain the top priority.
