Pets in our home may come in different sizes. From insects to hamsters, to dogs and even horses humans have come a long way from history in living with animals. We take them as pets when we consider them as part of the family and allow them to live with us in our house. Having pets at home requires a lot of responsibilities. Walking, bathing them, grooming and a lot more things need to be considered when you live with pets.

Now having kids at home and living with pets bring about more responsibilities. Since kids require their normal attention, we also need to consider the benefits and hazards of taking in pets. It is kids’ norms to love animals, pets, puppies or kittens. There is always the tendency that your kids and for example dogs will always be in contact. Fluffy dogs are usually hugged by kids and dogs. They have this instinct to protect themselves when they get hurt. Since we cannot control much on how kids touch or cuddle the dogs, they might bite our children causing them harm. There is also the issue on rabies since dogs and other animals naturally have this. Children are also prone to be scratched on by its pet like cats or dogs and may cause infection.

The animals’ fur is known allergens to us humans. Children or even adults can develop health problems like allergy or asthma. Before taking in pets, one must take note that animals come with allergens that can add problems to allergic people especially kids. The animals’ waste is also a noted problem when having pets. Proper disposal of its waste must be followed since some younger kids do not yet know what is dirty or not.

Having pets at home with your kids also has its advantages. It is known that having pets make the family more fun. Aside from having something to talk to, children who are given tasks in taking care of pets tend to be more responsible adults. The kids’ sense of responsibility is somewhat practiced while they are still young. Taking care of pets is also known as stress relief activity. Even the mere stroking of your dogs’ or cats’ body can induce the happy hormones in us humans. Children who are usually accompanied by pets do not feel alone since they consider the pets as a friend.

Dogs who are known to be territorial also serve as guardians in our home and kids. Because dogs are loyal to its owner, it has its protective capability when our home is invaded, or our kids are in peril adding security to us. Animals in any forms can also be considered as pets. Children who live with pets generally have more adventurous and happy days since pets are also playful.

Living with pets at home can help your child grow up as better adults. It now lies on the parents’ part to guide and keep your kids and pets safe.
