Ecosystem is a community made up of living organisms and non-living components such as air, water and mineral soil, all interacting as a system.  All organisms and their environment affect each other and they can be highly dependent on each other.

Ecosystems are very important; they keep the planet as a whole in balance.  Though ecosystems, in form, can be thought of as distinct systems, they are connected with each other and if an ecosystem fail, this can have reciprocal effect on other ecosystems in the world.

Ecosystems carry out oxygen and soil production and water purification that are essential to human existence.  All species on earth are maintained by their particular ecosystems, thus, ecosystems are significant venues for ensuring that biodiversity continues on this planet.

Humans, as well as all of the earth’s plants and animals depend on ecosystems in providing food, natural resources and habitat.

Ecosystems also play an important role in the evolution of organisms to survive within that ecosystem.

The interconnection of the organisms occurs in an ecosystem.  Note that there is no species existing in total isolation, so the ecosystem in which they live shapes their habits and biology.  When we see exuberant colors and behaviour in many of the world’s species, that is because of interconnectedness happening in the ecosystems.

Many ecosystems help in regulating the amounts of carbon in our climate. Other ecosystems safeguard the earth from extreme weather as barricade to floods and storms and prevent soil erosion.  This world we live in would be barren without the ecosystems.

We, people, should always be aware that we also play vital role in reserving and taking care of our ecosystems.  We have actions to take for this world to become a better place to live in.  There is a threat of destruction of ecosystems, should humans do not take part in its preservation.  Our ecosystems should not be destroyed by human activities.  One example is deforestation which often result to damage in the quality of land and loss of our forests.  Another is pollution – in the air, in water, even in soil, and there is an alarming rise of pollution around the world.

It is extremely necessary that we maintain and nurture all the ecosystems that we have; they should be dealt with proper care and concern.

Our ecosystems are beautiful and very beneficial to our lives.  It is our responsibility to protect and preserve them to create a better world for future generation(s).
